About me
My name is Matthew and I am a freelance architectural designer with 30 years of experience. I provide a personalised design service, producing all kinds of architectural drawings and documentation for planning permission, Building Regs etc. I have been involved with many building projects across South Wales. I believe that good design and architecture does not have to cost a fortune and it's important to get the right balance between artistic flair and practicality. With my years of experience and local knowledge, I can produce plans for your property that have a realistic chance of getting approved. Obtaining planning permission and complying with Building Regs is becoming increasingly complicated but with my local knowledge and expertise, I can guide you through the process smoothly.
I produce architectural drawings (CAD) from my home office in Stepaside, near Tenby, Pembrokeshire. Having spent 10 years as a project manager for a local house-builder, I am fully aware of the build-cost implications that can occur at the design stage. I have also recently completed a total renovation of my own house, carrying out most of the work myself. This has given me plenty of "hands-on" experience which is invaluable. Having lived in and around Tenby since childhood, I am thoroughly familiar with the Pembrokeshire area and its people. From 1995 until 2001, I worked for a reputable Pembrokeshire architect, where I did my training and obtained a HNC in Building Studies and developed a keen eye for good architectural design.
From 2001 until 2011, I was appointed as project manager of a local house-building company where my work was varied and included:-
- Design and production of all drawings for Planning, Building Regs,
road & drainage layouts.
- On site supervision of construction.
- Liaising with site utility companies, sub-contractors, engineers and
other professionals.
- Topographical land surveys using total station.
- Setting out works for plot boundaries, drainage, roads, foundations
etc.
- Quantifying and purchasing materials from suppliers.
- Checking quality of materials and workmanship.
- Assisting with the general management of the company.
I believe this experience as a project manager has given me excellent on-site experience and a real insight into the realities of construction work. One could spend years studying building methods and architecture, but not necessarily understand how things are done in practice.
From 2011 onwards I have been working as a freelance architectural designer. My work is covered by Professional Indemnity insurance and I undertake projects mainly around Tenby, Kilgetty and Narberth, but I am happy to consider projects throughout Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire. I've had the privilege of working on many beautiful Listed Buildings, up and down the country. A sensitive approach to design is essential, often requiring collaboration with other consultants. I can help you provide the necessary drawings, details and documentation.

If you are looking to do any work on a property you will most likely need a measured survey. I have surveyed hundreds of properties ranging from barns and houses to shops, hotels and night clubs.
